ARIZONA IS MY FAVORITE. felt almost eerily calm the whole trip & knew i could perform well. for the past week or so i've been focusing on the number 21 which sounds weird (like seriously every time i see it idk #sportpsych) but i wanted to break 22 SO BAD. got a quality bib number 1592 (which rearranged was my goal haha) so i was pretty excited. ;) morning of i just trusted my training and didn't worry about the race until literally when i was on the line. s/o to the cute orem boys that let me cut in line for the bathroom... they're the real mvp's. anyways led the cheer then got out there. i could tell the first mile was a lil quick but i didn't want to freak myself out so i didn't look at my time. (6:39) second mile i did what jamie recommended and played the catching game which really worked for me. (6:56) after some gained confidence i tried to maintain and kept thinking positive things. it was such a mental race for me. last mile i hit a wall a little but i pushed through it and came up pretty consistently (7:09) the course was 3.2 so the last straightaway felt forever long but i did have somewhat of a kick so that was good. if i get the opportunity to come again next year, i want to have more of a kick. overall i got a 6:53 ap and felt like it was a major breakthrough for me. super proud of the jv girls they all did great. love this team. also i'm so grateful for all that jamie, gill and the other coaches do for us. they are awesome! |
